Garlic our Liver Support Ally
Garlic our Liver Support Ally
As the king of the kitchen, garlic’s attributes are legendary including its use as a natural antibiotic. There is almost no part of the body it does not support in some way or another. But its use to treat and support liver function is perhaps less understood. Its noted uses are numerous from helping treat jaundice, Hepatitis C, liver nausea and sickness, chronic indigestion and premenstrual syndrome of a liver type. A lot of this activity is down to its high sulphur content but equally its other vital biochemistry. (Key biochemical components being its allicin, various minerals, vitamins and trace elements as well as over 200 sulphur compounds and 17 amino acids.)
The liver is the primary place in the body for fat synthesis and the production of blood cholesterol. Garlic lowers the levels of cholesterol and blood fats called triglycerides in the bloodstream and therefore garlic directly affects the liver and cholesterol production, helping create less cholesterol and fewer triglycerides.
Try using more garlic when and where you can. I know many people don’t like the smell but there are ways around that e.g. have it at night when not going out. If you find it fiddly always peel and chop then also have organic garlic flakes or powder on hand which is so much better than not using it at all.
